Maize Morado

  • Model: large packet
  • Units in Stock: 16

Maize Morado is the darkest corn I've seen. Handling the ripe ears will stain your hands purple! This ancient corn originated with the Inca in the Peruvian Andes. The kernels have a delicious sweet flavor and are used to brew a special and highly revered drink known as chicha which has amazing amounts of the important antioxidant anthocyanin. We make it like sun tea and add cinnamon, cloves and sometimes some fresh pineapple.
Of course, the corn can also be used for flour or eaten fresh when young. The thick stalks reach ten feet and the ears set very high, out of the reach of varmits like skunks.
A packet contains 80 seeds.
