Pod Corn (Zea mays tunicata)

  • Model: packet
  • Units in Stock: 20

Starting at: $5.00

Pod corn is grown as an ornamental and used in harvest displays. Not much is known about the origin of this unusual plant. At one time it was thought to be the ancient ancestor of modern corn, but it may arisen later in a spontaneous mutation. In any case it is beautiful. The 7 foot stalks bear each bear at least two ears. I have been selecting for the deep red husks with red stalks. However, there is a good deal of variation from deep purple to red checkered to earth tones and harvest golds and even pure whites. It is grown like regular corn and ready in about 90 days. This is a sale of seed only. 60 seeds per packet, 150 seeds in our field packet. (the seeds come in the husks so you know you are getting the real thing; it is fine to plant with the husk)
