This chile has been cultivated by people here since anyone can remember.  My neighbors in Chimayo have passed the seed down for generations, but it is on the verge of being lost as farms are abandoned and young people move to the cities. Not as large as modern chile. but with a spicy fire that will warm your belly, this wonderful pepper is adapted to the high cold valleys and is tough enough to grow under any conditions. I got the seed originally from a friend whose family still considers planting it a sacred tradition.
